Rio Oculto

Understanding a country of continental dimensions like Brazil is not an easy task. The construction of the territorial vastness of the country took place through the union of “key” cities, causing unique cultural diversity, reflected in every aspect of Brazilian history, as well as in the challenges ahead. Construindo o Brasil is a documentary series based on the formation of the main urban centers, which forged the identity of the each region of the country. Establishing the differences and the interaction between these poles, since our conquest of colonial independence, allows the understanding of how a Brazil of so many colors is set as a nation.

Each episode features a city from its foundation – investigating the clash between nature, inhabited by ancient peoples, and the European settlers – up to its future prospects. Construindo o Brasil presents questions posed by XXI century through a review of the history. New technologies for mobility and communication, a different understanding of urban space, climate change and sustainability are some of the issues. The documentary uses testimonials from local experts, current and archival images, computer graphics sequences and music. The episodes include Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, Manaus, Sao Paulo, Brasilia, and Salvador, the landing site of the first
Portuguese settlers, opening the series.
